INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - Grace's men's tennis team lost 1-8 on the road to Crossroads League leaders Marian on Tuesday.
Despite the overall team scoreline, many of the matches went down to the wire.
Daniel Sanchez and
Jose Marval teamed up for an 8-2 at No. 1 doubles, but the Knights (6-0, 6-0 CL) took the final two doubles' points.
Ethan Grove and
Jacob Stump dropped a tough 8-6 decision at No. 2 doubles.
In singles' play, Marian won three of the matches in straight sets. Each of the remaining three singles' matches were full of suspense. Sanchez fell 7-10 in the third set at No. 1 singles, Marval lost 10-12 in the third set at No. 2, and
Ricardo Bedon lost 9-11 in the tiebreaker at No. 6.
"This was a tough loss to swallow. But sometimes you need to feel the sting in order to bring your play to the next level. We had a good chance at two doubles, and three singles' points went to super tiebreakers," said Grace head coach
Larry Schuh. "If we face them again in the tournament, we will have to bring our play up a notch. They are a tough squad, and we tip our caps to them. Their depth is solid, but we look forward to another opportunity to play them again."
The Lancers (4-2, 4-2 CL) will look to bounce back on Saturday at 10 a.m. with a home match against Bethel.
