WINONA LAKE, Ind. - Grace's men's tennis team was edged out by Trine in the final set on Tuesday, falling 5-4 at Miller Athletic Complex.
The Lancers (1-1) nearly won all three doubles' points for an early advantage. Uros Pajic and Gabe Vervynckt cruised 8-2 at No. 2, and Adam Yoder and Connor Bates won 8-4 at No. 3.
The Thunder (1-0) gave themselves a chance by pulling out a 9-8 win at the top doubles' position.
Pajic won his second match of the day in singles at No. 2, winning 6-1, 6-3. Arturo Fonseca's 6-2, 6-4 victory at No. 5 put Grace one point away from clinching the match.
But Trine charged back to claim wins at No. 1, No. 3 and No. 4 singles which tied the team score at 4-4. The match came down to No. 6 singles, and Trine pulled out a nervy three-set victory.
The Lancers will stay home on Thursday, taking on league rival Indiana Wesleyan at 4 p.m.
