MOBILE, Ala. - A historic season for Grace's men's tennis team came to an end on Wednesday.
The Lancers fell 4-0 to No. 1 Georgia Gwinnett in the second round of the NAIA National Championships, ending No. 16 Grace's season with a sterling 26-6 record.
The Grizzlies are winners of six straight NAIA national championships, giving Grace a stiff test.
Georgia Gwinnett proved its No. 1 ranking with an efficient win on Wednesday. The Grizzlies quickly won the doubles' point before winning in straight sets at No. 1, 4 and 5 singles to clinch the match.
The Lancers dispatched of No. 21 Southeastern 4-2 on Tuesday in the NAIA opening round.
Grace was making its first appearance as a full team in the NAIA tournament since 1988.
Wednesday's match also snaps a nine-game winning streak for Grace. The last loss for the Lancers was on March 4 against then-No. 14 Cumberlands.
The winning streak was memorable for Grace as the Lancers claimed the 2021 NCCAA national championship last week at the Mobile Tennis Center. It marked Grace's first tennis national championship and the sixth national title across all sports at Grace.
