Lancers remain unbeaten

HUNTINGTON, Ind. – Grace's men's tennis team continued its unbeaten stretch earning a pair of victories over Huntington and Spring Arbor to move to 6-0 on the season. They stand alone atop the conference standings with two matches to play before the start of the league tournament.

The Lancers (6-0, 6-0 CL) have been dominant in doubles play all season, taking the team point in every match thus far. Javier Gallego and Pablo Gregori teamed up at No. 2 doubles to get an early leg up against the Foresters. Ramiro Candia and Nicolas Doria secured the doubles point moments later with a 6-3 win at No. 3 doubles.

In singles action, things got off to a rocky start. Grace dropped the first two points to fall behind 2-1 in the match. The intensity picked up as Gallego was able to draw the match even with a win at No. 2 doubles 6-2, 6-3.

The team would go on to take the final three points to put the match away 5-2. Facundo Paredes, No. 1 singles, nailed down his point after a thrilling three set tiebreaker 5-7, 6-1, 10-1. Candia followed him with a straight set triumph 6-2, 6-1. The final point went to Candia in the No. 6 slot.

The second match of the day went a little more smoothly with Grace walking away with a convincing 7-0 score line.

Partners Gallego and Gregori in addition to Candia and Doria locked up the doubles point 6-3 in both games.

A pair of retirements at No. 2 and 4 singles gave the Lancers the early 3-0 lead. Paredes supplied the match-clinching point in a third set tiebreaker 5-7, 0-6, 10-1.

Ivan Antinori excelled in his first singles appearance of the year, winning 6-4, 6-3 at No. 5. Kye Barrett rounded out the scoring to make it a clean sweep of the Cougars.

Grace will be back in action Tuesday, Sept. 13 for the final day of regular season conference play at Marian University in Indianapolis, Ind. The Lancers can claim their first regular season title since 2013-14 with a solid showing against Goshen and No. 25 Marian, starting at 1 p.m.
