MARION, Ind. - Grace's men's tennis team sent a group to participate in the ITA Regional Championships last week hosted by Indiana Wesleyan University. 

Seven from the team competed in the singles main draw, with three receiving Top 16 seeds, Javier Gallego, the No. 2 seed, Facundo Paredes, the No. 5 seed, and Pablo Gregori, the No. 11 seed.

Gallego made a deep run in the tournament, advancing all the way to the final. His first two matches were won in straight sets, the next in a third-set tiebreaker and the last two in straight sets. The championship match was decided by a tiebreaker, with Sergio Conde from UNOH escaping with the victory. 

Pablo Gregori advanced to the semifinal where he faced off against a familiar face. He won three of his four matches in straight sets before running into Gallego in the semis. He knocked off the No. 3 seed in the process.

Artur Pons advanced two rounds, but fell short in a tiebreaker against eventual champion Conde in the Round of 16.

Francisco Margaria upset the No. 4 from IWU in the opening round. He added one more win in the next round before falling to the No. 13 seed.

Facundo Paredes made quick work of his first two rounds, before stumbling against the No. 12 seed in the third round.

Luis Cordoba advanced to the Round of 32 before falling in straight sets to the No. 6 seed

Over in the singles B draw, Landon Gibson dropped the opener before winning a match 9-8 in the consolation bracket.

The doubles main draw featured three pairings for the Lancers. Parades and Gallego, the No. 3 seed, made it to the quarterfinal round where they dropped a tough match 9-7.

Partners Gregori/S. Pons and Cordoba/A. Pons each won their opening round fixture, but were unable to advance further. 

In the doubles B draw, Margaria and Gibson partnered together. The duo dropped their opening match, but won one in the consolation bracket.

Grace will host the first round of the Crossroads League tournament which is set to begin at 2 p.m. on Oct. 3 at the Don Cramer Tennis Courts.
