SPRING ARBOR, Mich. - Grace's women's tennis team was unable to outpace Spring Arbor in a closely contested match on Friday, losing 4-3 on the road.
The Cougars pulled out just enough singles' points to get the better of the Lancers in Grace's regular-season finale.
The Lancers began the match by sweeping the doubles' courts. Jimena Ramirez and Faith Valentine cruised to a 6-2 win at No. 1 doubles.
Shannon Brumbaugh and Landry Schrock battled to a 6-4 win at No. 2. Molli Runestad and Lauren Harris made it a clean sweep with a 7-6 victory at No. 3.
Grace's hopes looked even better after the Lancers pulled in front 3-0 following the conclusion of the first two singles' courts; Jimena Ramirez coasted 6-2, 6-0 at No. 1 singles, and Brumbaugh earned her second win with a 6-3, 6-0 scoreline at No. 4.
But the Cougars won the remaining four courts, including narrow wins at No. 3, No. 5 and No. 6 to secure the come-from-behind victory.
The Lancers will compete in next week's Crossroads League Tournament. Grace's seed and opponent will be determined after Saturday's remaining games. Grace will be on the road for the quarterfinals on Monday. The semifinals and championship match will be held at Indiana Wesleyan.
