Brian Dewey begins his third season in charge of Grace's cross country team.
Dewey joined the Lancers in January 2024 and immediately has made an impact on the team. In his first spring with Grace's track and field team, the women's squad claimed the 2024 NCCAA outdoor national championship. At the NAIA national meet, he helped four events reach All-American status, leading the women to a program-best 19th-place finish at the outdoor meet.
In 2025-26, Dewey's cross country program made waves at the national level. The women finished as the national runner-up at NCCAA Nationals and grabbed their best finish ever at NAIA Nationals (8th place). The team had three individual NAIA All-American honors. During the track season, the team went on to collect eight NAIA All-American finishes, including an NAIA national champion in the indoor mile (Kylie Sauder). The Lancers won six individual national titles at the NCCAA Outdoor Championships as well.
As a result of the team's success, Grace's women finished as the No. 8-ranked team in the Program of the Year by the USTFCCCA in 2024-25.
Dewey came to Grace with decades of coaching experience, most recently at Indiana Wesleyan.
Dewey assisted the Wildcats since 2021, assisting all facets of distance training as well as serving as a lead on the team’s recruiting efforts. The men’s team was ranked No. 1 in the NAIA for much of this fall, and the women’s team was in the top-15 of the nation.
During his time at IWU, he helped coach 10 NAIA All-Americans in cross country and 14 more in various track distance events.
Prior to coaching at IWU, Dewey served for over a decade at the Christian Academy of Louisville. He was a Bible teacher and cross country/track coach at Christian Academy.
He helped direct his athletes to 26 All-State finishes for cross country, including three state champions. His teams earned 13 top-10 state finishes, winning the state title twice and finishing runner-up three times. His track team also won a state championship during his time, and three individuals won individual state titles as well. Dewey was a two-time Kentucky high school coach of the year.
He held a similar role at Norfolk Christian Schools in Virginia from 2002-08, garnering four top-10 team finishes at the state level, including one individual state champion.
“We are excited for Brian to join our family at Grace. He has a strong passion to disciple athletes and help them grow in their walk with Christ through their athletic experience,” said Grace Director of Athletics Chad Briscoe. “Brian has enjoyed tremendous success both at the high school and college level during his coaching career. We look forward to the impact that Brian, his wife Marybeth and their family will have at Grace!”
Dewey is no stranger to Indiana. He was an accomplished collegiate runner at Bethel from 1997-2001. He was an NAIA national qualifier in the steeplechase and graduated with a degree in Biblical studies in 2001.
“We are thrilled to have Brian join our program. His experience shows he knows what it takes to be successful in the toughest conference in the NAIA and at the national level,” said Grace track and field head coach Michael Moffitt. “We look forward to what he will bring to the table spiritually and developmentally as we take our program to the next level.”
The Lancers have enjoyed sustained success over the past several years. Grace has won three consecutive NCCAA national championships in cross country for both the men and women. The track program has won an NCCAA national championship in 2021, 2022 and 2023 as well.
Grace’s cross country program (both the men’s and women’s teams) has placed in the top-15 of the NAIA National Championships in each of the past two seasons.
Dewey and his wife Marybeth have four children (Addi, Clara, Brady, Tate).
