Grace too much for Spring Arbor to handle

WINONA LAKE, Ind. – Dana Johnston's 12 kills paced Grace's efforts as the Lady Lancers swept Spring Arbor on Grace's “Senior Night” on Friday.

The Lady Lancers (17-10; 10-5 Crossroads League) pounded out 42 kills in three sets while holding the Cougars (1-25; 0-15 CL) to a .101 hitting percentage in a dominant display.

In Grace's first game, the Lady Lancers recorded just one attack error en route to a 25-16 victory.

In the second set, Spring Arbor provided their strongest effort of the night. The Cougars led the set midway through with the score at 16-15, but a thunderous block point by Grace sparked the Lady Lancers.

Grace went on to win the set by five points on a kill from Arielle Walters.

Spring Arbor trimmed an early lead from Grace in the third set until they trailed by just one at 16-15. But Grace shut the door on the Cougars from that point on, closing out the match on a 9-2 run.

Johnston's 12 kills came with a single error on 19 attempts, resulting in an impressive hitting percentage of .579.

Freshman setter Sarah Tullis handed out a match-high 22 assists, nine of which went to her classmate Alix Underwood.

Hannah Clemmons tallied eight kills and nine digs, Stefanie Bolt added one solo block and three block assists, and Calah Kruse led all players with 13 digs.

Grace's three seniors – Bethany Whitcraft, Arielle Walters and Stefanie Bolt – were honored before the Lady Lancers' match on Friday night.

The Lady Lancers continue action tomorrow with a crucial home match with Taylor at 3 p.m. The Trojans currently sit one game ahead of Grace for second place in the league standings.
