INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Grace's volleyball team struggled on the offensive end on Wednesday night, losing in four sets to Marian University.
The Lady Lancers (17-12; 10-7 Crossroads League) tallied 11 block points defensively but connected at a .141 hitting percentage offensively as a team.
Calah Kruse led Grace in a losing effort with the only double-double of the night. Kruse had 14 kills on a .300 percentage to go along with 15 digs to lead Grace in both categories.
The Knights (14-13; 11-7 CL) put the Lady Lancers in an early hole to start the match, leading 6-1 out of the gate. Grace could not pushed closer than four points of Marian's lead after that point in a 25-17 defeat.
The second set was a reversal as Grace jumped out to a commanding 12-3 lead. The Knights cut Grace's lead to 23-20 in the final stages, but a pair of kills from Alix Underwood clinched a 25-21 win for Grace.
Marian responded with a dominant 25-15 win in the third set and took the match in the fourth set by the score of 25-19.
Grace held a 9-7 lead in the fourth set before surrendering an 8-2 run to allow the Knights to run away with the set and the match.
Bethany Whitcraft handed out 34 assists in the match, and Arielle Walters added 8 kills, 2 solo blocks and 6 block assists.
Allyssa Johnson tallied 10 digs in two sets, and Hannah Clemmons and Katie Brueck added nine digs.
Dana Johnston recorded nine kills and three block assists, and Stefanie Bolt chipped in with four kills and four block assists.
The Lady Lancers wrap up their nonleague schedule over the weekend with four matches on Friday and Saturday at the Aquinas/Cornerstone Classic.
