WINONA LAKE, Ind. – Grace's women's tennis team concluded their regular season in defeat, falling 6-3 to the University of Saint Francis on Saturday.
Four different players helped earn points for the Lady Lancers (2-7; 2-6 Crossroads League), including a pair of freshmen.
The No. 3 duo of freshman Sarah Hinkel and sophomore Esther Smith earned Grace's only point in doubles competition. The pair outlasted stiff competition to win 8-6.
Kristin Cassidy and Taryn Wuensch came up just short at No. 1 doubles with an 8-6 defeat.
Wuensch got her win in singles competition, however, as the freshman took a 6-1, 6-4 victory at No. 2 singles.
Janelle Hess earned the third point for Grace in hard-fought three-set win. After losing the opening set 5-7, Hess recovered to win 6-3 and 6-2 at No. 4 singles for Grace.
The Lady Lancers shift their focus to next week's Crossroads League Tournament. Grace, the No. 7 seed in the tournament, will travel to Indianapolis, Ind., on Tuesday for a match with second-seeded Marian University.
