Lady Lancers edge out Knights on the road

Box Score

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Grace's women's basketball team displayed a consistent performance from start to finish in their 72-63 win over Marian University on Wednesday.

Juaneice Jackson, the reigning Crossroads League Player of the Week, continued her strong play with 27 points to lead all scorers.

“This was a great team win. We talked about playing with toughness on the road, and tonight our ladies did that,” said Grace head coach Scott Blum. “This was our best effort of the year with several of our girls stepping up. [Heather] House had good minutes for us as did [JoEllen] Fickel and [Sarah] Feasby.”

The Lady Lancers (14-7; 5-4 CL) went ahead 6-5 in the early stages of the contest on a jumper from Jackson. Unbeknownst to those in attendance, Grace would stay in front for the final 38 minutes of regulation.

Jackson (13 points) and Allison Kauffman (11) paced Grace's offense in the first half as the Lady Lancers took a 38-31 advantage into the break.

Grace opened up a double-digit lead midway into the second half and held off any serious runs from the Knights (13-7; 3-6 CL) throughout the rest of the game.

The Lady Lancers clinched the victory by making 12 free throws over the final three minutes of action.

As a team Grace held a 26-16 advantage in points in the paint. They also recorded 15 second-chance points and outscored Marian 9-3 on fast break points.

Jackson's 27 points came on 11-of-19 shooting. She also tallied 6 rebounds, 3 assists and 3 steals.

Kauffman recorded her second-highest scoring output of the season with 19 points on 6-of-7 from the field and 6-of-8 from the foul line.

Emily Bidwell tied a career-high by pulling down 11 rebounds, and Jayla Starks added 6 points, 6 assists, 7 rebounds and 2 steals.

The Lady Lancers held a dominant 37-27 advantage in rebounding and made 48.0 percent of their field goals compared to 42.6 percent for Marian.

Grace, who is tied for fourth in the CL standings, will host Mt. Vernon Nazarene on Saturday at 1 p.m.
