GOSHEN, Ind. – Grace's defense gave Goshen fits all game on Saturday as the Lady Lancers defeated the Maple Leafs 78-69 on Saturday.
Goshen was forced into 30 turnovers as Juaneice Jackson's 26 points highlighted Grace's offense.
Jackson was particularly efficient in the first half as she scored 17 points, nearly outscoring Goshen by herself (25 team points).
Grace blitzed Goshen from the beginning, taking an 18-2 lead out of the gate. The Lady Lancers (12-5; 3-2 Crossroads League) continued their advantage and took a 36-25 lead into the halftime break.
The Maple Leafs (2-15; 0-5 CL) refused to fade, however. Goshen chipped away at Grace's lead until they trailed by just three at 51-48 with 9:39 to play. But Grace managed to keep Goshen at bay with four straight points.
Goshen cut their deficit to four points minutes later, but Jackson responded with a 3-pointer on Grace's next possession.
The Lady Lancers held off any further threats from Goshen en route to their nine-point win.
Overall, Grace nabbed 18 steals. Jayla Starks recorded a career-high eight steals to go along with 10 points and five rebounds.
Jackson's 26 points came on 9-of-14 shooting. She drilled 3-of-5 from beyond the arc to go along with six rebounds and five steals.
Allison Kauffman added 16 points on a perfect 10-of-10 shooting from the free throw line to go along with nine rebounds, Gabby Bryant scored 12 points, and Emily Bidwell produced seven points and four boards.
Grace held a significant advantage from the free throw line. They made 27-of-33 (82 percent) from the charity stripe compared to Goshen, who made 15 free throws.
The Lady Lancers will continue Crossroads League play on Tuesday when they host Taylor University at the Orthopaedic Capital Center at 7 p.m.
