Volleyball chops down Foresters in four sets

HUNTINGTON, Ind. – A big effort from Calah Kruse propelled Grace's volleyball team to a 3-1 victory at Huntington on Wednesday.

Kruse led all players on offense and defense with 18 kills and 25 digs as the Lady Lancers (13-5; 5-5 Crossroads League) improved to .500 in league competition.

Grace's offense found little resistance from the Foresters (3-14; 2-8 CL) as Grace held a 54-33 advantage in kills.

The Lady Lancers jumped ahead 2-0 in sets after compelling 25-10 and 25-11 victories in the first two games.

Huntington escaped the sweep by pulling out a 25-23 win in the third set, and the Foresters proved to be up for a fight in the fourth set as well.

The decisive fourth set went into extra points as Grace produced the 27-25 victory.

Kruse earned her 17 kills on a .341 percentage. Her well-rounded performance included an ace and no serving errors on 14 attempts as well as two block assists.

Dana Johnston recorded 14 kills, 1 solo block and 3 block assists, and Alix Underwood added 10 kills and a team-best four block assists.

Freshman setter Taylor Baird dished out 46 assists in the four-set win, and Kaitlin Kerrigan and Annie Salazar tallied 17 digs apiece for Grace's defense.

The Lady Lancers conclude the week with a road trip to Spring Arbor on Friday followed by a home match on Saturday against St. Francis at 3 p.m. Listen to Saturday's game live here.
