Grace drops nailbiter to IU-Northwest in final seconds

Box Score

WINONA LAKE, Ind. – For the second time in four games, Grace's women's basketball team lost on a late game-winning basket, this time at the hands of IU-Northwest 67-65 on Saturday night.

Juaneice Jackson scored her 27th point of the night at the free throw line to tie the score at 65-65 with 19 seconds remaining. But the RedHawks won the game with a shot in the paint with less than five seconds to play, and Grace's desperation shot at the buzzer was off the mark.

The Lady Lancers (2-3) struggled with their shooting touch, making just 38 percent of their shots overall and 50 percent (8-of-16) from the free throw line.

Jackson starred for Grace in the opening stages of the game, ripping off 12 points in the first six minutes of action. The Lady Lancers led by as many as seven points before IU-Northwest took control to close the half. The RedHawks used a 9-0 run to spark an eight-point advantage at halftime.

Grace still trailed 61-54 with 4:32 remaining before Jackson and Chloe Pridgen pioneered a comeback. Pridgen scored back-to-back buckets, and a 3-pointer from Jackson helped erase IU-Northwest's lead. But the RedHawks had the final strike on Saturday night with their game winner.

Jackson's 27 points came with five 3's, 3 assists and 3 steals as she played the full 40 minutes. Pridgen finished with six points and seven rebounds in 16 minutes off the bench.

Allison Kauffman recorded 10 points and five rebounds, Dariyan Morris added 10 points and three assists, and Jesse Feitz tallied four points and six rebounds as a substitute.

As a team, the Lady Lancers nabbed 12 steals to force the RedHawks into 21 turnovers.

Grace resumes play next weekend at the Terry Polston Hoops for Hope Tournament, taking on a pair of ranked teams on Friday and Saturday at the Manahan Orthopaedic Capital Center. Grace faces No. 21 Purdue Calumet on Friday at 6 p.m. before hosting No. 9 St. Xavier on Saturday at 2 p.m.
