First-half charge allows Grace to blow past Rochester

Box Score

ROCHESTER HILLS, Mich. – A dominant first half of action lifted Grace's women's basketball team to an 82-64 road victory over Rochester on Saturday.

The 20th-ranked Lady Lancers (3-5) snapped a four-game losing streak, sparked by a strong all-around performance from Juaneice Jackson. The senior guard finished with 26 points, 6 assists and 5 steals, sinking 4-of-6 from beyond the arc.

Grace seized control of the game immediately after tipoff, running away to a 25-5 lead after nine minutes. Juaneice Jackson poured in 12 points during Grace's charge. The Lady Lancers built their first-half lead up to as many as 26 and entered the halftime break ahead 43-21.

Rochester was forced into 11 turnovers over the first 20 minutes and made just 9-of-28 from the floor. Grace, conversely, connected on 60 percent of its field goals and recorded an assist on 10 of its 18 made shots.

The Warriors finally showed signs of life with nine minutes remaining in the game, cutting a 22-point deficit down to eight points over a four-minute span. But Grace's defense silenced the Warriors down the stretch. Rochester was held to two points over the final 4:20, allowing Grace to cruise to victory.

Grace outrebounded Rochester by eight in the game and also held a strong advantage at the free throw line, making 17 foul shots compared to six for the Warriors.

Tiffany Petro had the best game of her career with 10 points on 5-of-5 shooting to go along with four boards. Allison Kauffman just missed a double-double with nine points and a game-high 15 rebounds. Chloe Pridgen scored seven points, and Sarah Feasby, Kelsey Sule, Dariyan Morris, Jesse Feitz and JoElen Fickell each registered five points.

The Lady Lancers return to the Manahan Orthopaedic Capital Center on Tuesday for the start of the Crossroads League season. Grace will host Taylor at 7 p.m. on Tuesday.
