First-half troubles give Lady Lancers loss to Indiana Tech

Box Score

FORT WAYNE, Ind. – A late rally was not enough to erase a woeful first half for Grace's women's basketball team, helping Indiana Tech to an 86-70 victory on Wednesday.

The 20th-ranked Lady Lancers (2-2) were outscored 47-25 in the first half as the Warriors made a sizzling 53 percent of their field goals.

The score was close at 14-12 through the midway point of the first period, but Grace found the rims unforgiving for the remainder of the half. The Lady Lancers made just 5-of-19 from the floor over the final 10:30 of the half, allowing the Warriors (2-2) to take over the game on a 33-13 run.

Grace outscored Indiana Tech by six in the second half, but their efforts were too late. The Lady Lancers nearly pulled themselves back into contention with an 18-5 run, bringing the score to 76-66 with 2:19 to play.

Juaneice Jackson led Grace in scoring with 21 points, including four 3-pointers. She also had 5 rebounds, 4 steals and 2 assists.

Allison Kauffman recorded a double-double of 17 points and 10 rebounds, Sarah Feasby tallied 7 points, 6 rebounds and 3 assists, and Darian Patton added six points and five boards. Dariyan Morris, in her first career start, finished with 10 points and three assists.

As a team, Grace committed 21 turnovers and shot just 36 percent from the floor for the game.

The Lady Lancers will look to recover on Saturday when they host IU-Northwest for a 7 p.m. game at the Manahan Orthopaedic Capital Center.
