WINONA LAKE, Ind. – After a slow start by Grace's volleyball team, the Lady Lancers recovered to win 3-1 against Goshen on Wednesday.
The Lady Lancers were led by 19 kills from Dana Johnston as Grace held the Maple Leafs to a .134 team hitting percentage.
Grace held Goshen at bay for much of the first set and led 24-20. The Maple Leafs (6-11; 1-8 CL) countered to tie the score and force extra points. Goshen was serving for the set point before the Lady Lancers (12-5; 4-5 CL) dug deep to claim a 29-27 win.
The Maple Leafs had their best showing in the second set, tallying 15 kills in a 25-22 win.
Grace responded with a six-point victory in the third set. The Lady Lancers committed just two attacking errors in the set.
The final set was all Grace. Goshen was held to a negative attacking percentage (-.030) as Grace pounded out 14 kills en route to a decisive 25-13 clincher.
Calah Kruse had a strong outing with a double-double of 14 kills and 14 digs. Taylor Baird filled in as setter to hand out 41 assists, and Alix Underwood had 11 kills on a .345 percentage.
Defensively, Hannah Clemmons had a team-best 18 digs, and Annie Salazar and Kaitlin Kerrigan had 14 digs apiece. Gabby Dunlap also had five kills for Grace.
The Lady Lancers will have a week off before their next match at Huntington on Oct. 2.
