Lady Lancers wrap up regular season with loss at Marian

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Grace's women's tennis team concluded the regular season with a 9-0 defeat at Marian on Thursday.

The Lady Lancers (3-6; 3-5 Crossroads League) struggled without their top singles player Kristin Cassidy in a sweep.

The Knights (8-2; 7-1 CL) won all but one set in doubles' competition as Sarah Hinkel and Esther Smith lost 8-1 at No. 3 doubles.

In singles' play Julia Marsh had the strongest showing for the Lady Lancers. Marsh won four sets in a 6-3, 6-1 loss at No. 6.

Katie Etter, Gabrielle Lawrence, Hinkel and Mariah Zumbrun each took one set in defeat as well.

"Today Marian showed why they were a set away from winning the conference this year. They are extremely talented and very well coached," said Grace head coach Scott Moore. "However, I'm excited for the chance to go right back to Indianapolis and play them again on Tuesday. Our girls have the drive to be great, and playing teams like Marian show us what it takes to get there!"

The Lady Lancers will look to extend their season next week at the Crossroads League Tournament. The bracket will be released shortly, and Grace will face a rematch with the No. 2-seeded Knights on Tuesday.
