Volleyball dispatches Knights in four sets

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – A balanced team effort led Grace's volleyball team to a 3-1 victory over Marian on Wednesday night.

Grace won the first two sets handily 25-18 and 25-13 to take a commanding lead in the match. The Knights (9-20, 4-11 CL) were held to seven kills and nine attacking errors in the second set.

Marian's offense responded by taking the third set 25-13 thanks to 13 kills on a .324 hitting percentage. But Grace clinched the match 25-22 in the fourth set. The Lady Lancers (23-7, 12-2 CL) opened the fourth set with a 9-0 run and never looked back.

"This was a good league win for us. Marian has a tough group of girls, and at their place the gym was dynamic for them on senior night," said Grace head coach Andria Harshman. "I'm glad we battled and controlled our composure to pull out this win."

Grace Woolsey exceled for Grace with 11 kills and 12 block assists, and Calah Kruse had 12 kills, 11 digs and 5 block assists. Kaitlin Kerrigan added nine kills and 18 digs, and Hannah Clemmons also added 18 digs.

Ellie Harp finished with 38 assists, 8 digs and 6 kills, and Tori Bontrager had five kills and four service aces. Sierra Smith had five block assists, and Sara Miller chipped in with nine digs.

The Lady Lancers are currently the hottest team in the Crossroads League with five consecutive wins. Grace's next league match is on Oct. 28 at home against Mt. Vernon Nazarene. Grace's game against the Cougars will also be "Day with the Lancers" for kids in kindergarten through eighth grade.
