Bethel trips up Lady Lancers

MISHAWAKA, Ind. – Despite a statistical edge in nearly every category, Grace's volleyball team fell in five sets to Bethel on Friday night.

The Lady Lancers (24-8, 13-3 Crossroads League) had 7 more kills, 9 more assists, 10 more digs, 2 more block points and a higher attack percentage than Bethel, but the Pilots (16-14, 9-7 CL) scored points when they needed in the victory.

After losing the opening set 25-22, Grace responded aptly by taking the next two games 25-20 and 25-23. Needing a win to survive, the Pilots won the fourth set 25-22 despite a 15-9 advantage for Grace in kills.

In the tiebreaker, Grace's offense faltered to just four kills and six attack errors, and the Pilots went on to win 15-9.

Kaitlin Kerrigan paced Grace's offense with 16 kills and 20 digs, and Grace Woolsey added 14 kills and five block assists.

Ellie Harp finished with 42 assists, 13 digs and 8 kills, Hannah Clemmons tallied 29 digs, Sierra Smith had eight kills on a .389 percentage, and Calah Kruse added 17 digs, 5 block assists and 4 kills.
