Box Score 2 DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Grace's volleyball team concluded the Embry-Riddle Tournament in Florida with a split on Saturday.
The Lady Lancers took down Northwest in five sets to kick off the day, running their record to 7-0 with the win. But No. 14-ranked Oklahoma Baptist gave Grace its first taste of defeat in 2014 with a 3-1 victory.
Against Northwest in the opener, Grace fell behind by dropping the first set 25-22. The Lady Lancers responded with a 25-16 win in the second before falling behind again 29-27 in the third set.
Grace then pulled out a hard-fought 25-23 win in the fourth set as Kaitlin Kerrigan and Calah Kruse earned the final four kills down the stretch. The fifth set swung Grace's way early with a 7-4 lead, and the Lady Lancers rode that momentum to a six-point win.
Calah Kruse was a force offensively, amassing 22 kills on a .311 percentage. She also had 16 digs, 3 aces and 2 block assists. Ellie Harp tallied 46 assists and 19 digs, Kaitlin Kerrigan had 16 kills and 12 digs, and Grace Woolsey finished with 8 kills, 4 block assists and 1 solo block.
In Grace's final match of the tournament, No. 14 Oklahoma Baptist jumped ahead early with a 25-15 win. Grace did not back down, however, tying the match 25-18 in the second set.
The Lady Lancers nearly forged ahead in the third set. Grace scored five straight points late in the game to grab a 23-22 lead, but OBU finished the game with a kill and two aces. Oklahoma Baptist then clinched the match in the fourth set, winning 25-20.
Kruse nearly had another double-double with 12 kills and nine digs. Harp had 30 assists, 8 kills and 8 digs, Megan Johnson recorded six kills, and Annie Salazar led all players with 21 digs.
The Lady Lancers kick off the Crossroads League season on Wednesday with a match at Taylor at 7 p.m.
