Lady Lancers stumble to Goshen

GOSHEN, Ind. – Grace's volleyball team tasted its first loss of the Crossroads League season in a 3-1 defeat on Wednesday night to Goshen.

The Lady Lancers (15-4, 6-1 CL) had three players with double-digit kills, but their effort was not enough to earn a sixth consecutive win.

Grace had a 13-11 advantage in the opening set, but the Maple Leafs (7-7, 3-4 CL) won eight of the next nine points to grab momentum. Grace battled back to tie the score at 23-23, but Goshen came out of a timeout to win the final points of the set in a 25-23 victory.

Goshen went on to win the second set 25-22, producing a match-high 17 kills on a .214 percentage.

The third set brought a measure of revenge as Grace fought back for a 25-20 victory, but Goshen had the final say in the fourth set. The Maple Leafs picked up a commanding 22-13 lead before Grace went on a valiant rally. The Lady Lancers ripped off eight points in a row as Grace Woolsey tallied two kills and a block, but the Maple Leafs recovered in time to win by three.

Overall Grace finished with a .170 attacking percentage and 46 kills. Goshen had 54 kills on a .171 percentage to go along with nine more digs (77 to 68) than the Lady Lancers.
