GOSHEN, Ind. - Grace's women's tennis team concluded the regular season with three consecutive wnis, including Tuesday's 8-1 thrashing of Goshen College.
The Lady Lancers wrapped up the Crossroads League season with a 3-5 record. Grace finished in a three-way tie for fifth place in the league standings with the CL Tournament to begin on Sept. 30. Grace has one match remaining in the regular season on Saturday 11 a.m. at Miller Field against Concordia (Mich.).
Natalia Kurkova continued her impressive junior campaign with wins at No. 1 singles (6-2, 6-2) and No. 1 doubles with
Kristin Cassidy (8-2).
Mariah Zumbrun and
Sarah Hinkel also claimed two wins apiece. Hinkel won at No. 3 singles and No. 3 doubles with
Katie Etter, and Zumbrun was victorious at No. 5 singles and No. 2 doubles with
Gabrielle Lawrence.
Sophomore
Jayna Huber (6-2, 6-4) at No. 4 singles and freshman
Caroline Cassidy (6-1, 6-1) also earned straight-set wins in singles' play for the Lady Lancers.
The Crossroads League Tournament consists of three matches next week. The quarterfinals will be played Sept. 30, the semifinals on Oct. 2 and the championship match on Oct. 4. All matches will be played at the higher seed's home courts.
