GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – Grace's volleyball team won one and lost one on the final day of the Davenport Tournament on Saturday.
The Lady Lancers (15-12) beat Ashford in four sets before losing to Cardinal Stritch 3-1.
In the opening match on Saturday, Grace's offense carried the Lady Lancers to a 3-1 win over Ashford. The Lady Lancers hit at a .201 percentage to top the Saints (18-14).
Grace won the first two sets handily – 25-19 and 25-15. Ashford pulled out a 25-20 win in the third, but Grace wrapped up the match with a 25-20 victory in the fourth set.
Grace's offense was balanced with five players recording at least six kills, led by Kelsee Zuidema's nine kills on 16 swings. Tori Bontrager was a factor on both sides of the net, recording eight kills on a .412 percentage to go along with six block assists. Naarah Foster and Marta Bleed also tallied eight kills apiece.
Sara Miller tallied 17 digs and three aces, Caylie Teel notched 14 digs, and Kaitlin Kerrigan produced six kills and 11 digs.
The tournament ended with a match against Cardinal Stritch, who is receiving votes in the NAIA Top 25. Grace won the opening game 25-19, but that proved to be the high point of the match.
Cardinal Stritch pulled out a pair of narrow wins in the second and third sets, 25-23 and 25-22, and the Wolves (23-8) secured the match with a 25-14 win in the fourth game.
Kerrigan had a double-double with 10 kills and 13 digs. Sierra Smith and Zuidema notched nine kills apiece, and Bontrager added 5 kills, 1 solo block and 4 block assists.
Laken Chaney tallied 27 assists, 6 digs and 3 service aces, and Miller finished with 15 digs.
Kelsee Zuidema was named to the All-Tournament Team after a strong four matches at Davenport.
The Lady Lancers return to Crossroads League play on Tuesday with a home match against Mt. Vernon Nazarene at 7 p.m.
