Game Recap: Women's Volleyball |

Lady Lancers misfire in defeat at Taylor

UPLAND, Ind. - Grace's volleyball team struggled in a 3-0 loss at Taylor on Wednesday evening.

Grace's offense was stifled to a .070 hitting percentage as a team as the Trojans (14-13, 10-6 Crossroads League) had nine blocks.

The first set was the only one that was tightly contested. Grace held a five-point lead midway into the opening game, but Taylor responded by scoring eight of the next nine points to take the lead for good.

The Lady Lancers (17-15, 8-8 CL) trimmed Taylor's advantage to one point late in the set, but the Trojans ended the set with a kill and a block to win 25-22.

Grace could not find its offense after the opening set. Taylor went on to sweep the match 25-12 and 25-13 as Grace mustered nine kills in each of the final two sets.

Sierra Smith was a bright spot offensively with nine kills on a .318 percentage. Kelsee Zuidema had eight kills and five digs, and Tori Bontrager added five kills and three block assists.

Sara Miller led all players with 20 digs, and Laken Chaney tallied 17 assists and eight digs.

The Lady Lancers end the regular season with two home matches this week. Grace, who still has a chance to clinch a top-four seed in the CL Tournament, will host Huntington on Friday at 5 p.m. and Marian on Saturday at 5 p.m. Friday's match will be Senior Night to honor the senior class of Alix Underwood, Jessica Scherb and Annie Salazar.
