GOSHEN, Ind. – Grace's volleyball team lost a tough match on the road to Goshen College on Saturday.
The Lady Lancers (8-8, 0-4 Crossroads League) were plagued by offensive errors in the match and lost in four sets. Grace had a season-worst 39 attacking errors and hit at a .025 percentage as a team.
The Maple Leafs (8-4, 2-3 CL) survived Grace's best offensive set in the opening game to win 25-21. Grace had 14 kills in the opener.
Grace rebounded well in the second set and led 17-11. But the Lady Lancers had to survive a late collapse to even the match. Goshen went on an 11-2 run, eventually serving for the win at 24-22. Grace won the next four rallies, however, and ended the game on a kill from Kelsee Zuidema.
Grace's offensive woes were punctuated in the final two sets. Grace had 11 attacking errors in the third and fourth sets, hitting at a negative team hitting percentage in each game. Goshen went on to take the match 25-17 and 25-19.
Sara Miller stood out defensively with 21 digs and three service aces, and Kaitlin Kerrigan was a rare bright spot for Grace's offense with 13 kills and eight digs.
The Lady Lancers will look to rebound next week with three matches at the Manahan Orthopaedic Capital Center. Grace hosts Taylor on Wednesday, Spring Arbor on Friday and St. Francis on Saturday, Sept. 19.
