Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Lady Lancers score five to rout Missouri Baptist

BOURBONNAIS, Ill. – One day after shooting 50 times in a win over Hannibal-LaGrange, No. 15 Grace's women's soccer team continued its torrid offensive pace with a 5-0 win over Missouri Baptist.

The Lady Lancers (5-0) continued their perfect start to the season and have yet to surrender a goal. Grace's defense has now played 450 minutes of action without yielding a goal, producing a 12-0 advantage in scoring for Grace through five matches.

"The women made a big improvement in just 24 hours. Missouri Baptist was a good possession team that played a technical brand of football. The Grace women just took our game to another level," said Grace head coach Michael Voss. "Our movement and pace was much improved. We had quality minutes from nearly the entire squad. I'm pleased with the quality of possession attacking futbol today from the entire group."

Grace dominated the shot count in the match, firing 29 attempts compared to five for the Spartans (0-2).

Despite taking 16 shots and four corner kicks in the opening half, it took Grace until the 41st minute to break the deadlock. Heather Martin assisted Carianne Sobey for the game's first goal at the 40:59 mark. From that point on, Grace made it a habit to find the back of the net.

Just 61 seconds into the second half, senior Darcy Johnston scored her first goal of the season, assisted by Meredith Hollar. Hollar then added her own goal at the 54:18 mark, which was assisted by Carianne Sobey.

In the 72nd minute, Jordan Hairgrove finished off a pass from Carianne Sobey to make the score 4-0. It was the 41st assist of Sobey's career, who holds the program's all-time record for career assists.

Mallory Rondeau then finished off the scoring with goal in the 75th minute, assisted by Hairgrove

Overall, Voss played 21 players in the contest, and 10 Lady Lancers registered a shot attempt. Rondeau tallied seven shots to lead all players, and Hollar had six.

Abby Schue made four saves in 90 minutes to earn her fifth shutout in as many games.

The Lady Lancers travel to John Brown next week for a tournament in Siloam Springs, Ark. Grace plays a pair of teams — John Brown, Oklahoma City — who are receiving votes in the NAIA Top 25 Preseason Coaches' Poll.
