Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Grace stumbles to Taylor in OT

WINONA LAKE, Ind. - Grace's women's basketball team was 30 seconds away from its first league victory on Wednesday.

But Taylor came back to force overtime, ultimately winning 89-80 at the Manahan Orthopaedic Capital Center.

The loss for the Lady Lancers (5-18, 0-11 Crossroads League) came despite three players having career-best performances.

Sarah Feasby led Grace with a career-high 26 points. She made 12-of-15 from the floor and pulled in seven rebounds.

Freshman Lauren Godfrey made the most of her first collegiate start, scoring a personal-best 12 points on 4-of-5 shooting from the 3-point line.

Darian Patton nearly had a triple-double, producing 8 points, 7 rebounds, a career-high 10 assists and 3 steals in an impressive performance.

Grace led for most of the first quarter. Kelsie Peterson provided a late spark with five points in the last 2:09 to help the Lady Lancers to a 17-14 lead.

Taylor rebounded with two scoring bursts in the second quarter. The Trojans began the second with a 10-0 run, producing all 10 points in less than two minutes.

Grace fought back and began to take advantage of Taylor's zone defense. The Lady Lancers pulled ahead 34-29 on a basket by Haley Richardson. Fourteen of Grace's 19 points in the second quarter were scored in the paint.

It was Taylor who went into halftime with the lead, however. The Trojans ripped off 10 points over the final 1:47 of the half, going ahead 39-36 at the break.

The game seemed destined to come down to the final minute as neither side could grab a definitive lead in the second half. Back-to-back 3-pointers from Godfrey and Patton gave Grace a four-point edge with 2:41 on the clock. Grace stayed in front 76-72 after Gabby Miller sank two foul shots with 32 seconds left.

But Taylor cut Grace's lead in half with two free throws on its next possession, and the Trojans' fullcourt defense got a steal on the ensuing inbounds pass. Taylor was promptly fouled, tying the game up with two more foul shots.

Grace had a chance to win the game at the end of regulation, but a jump shot by Miller was short.

Feasby opened overtime with a basket to put Grace on top 78-76, but that proved to be the high point of the extra session. Taylor outscored Grace 13-2 for the rest of the period, easing away for the nine-point win.

The Trojans shot 46 percent as a team from the floor. Taylor earned 14 more foul shots than Grace, and they made the Lady Lancers pay. The Trojans missed only two of their 25 free throw attempts.

Richardson finished with 9 points, 9 rebounds, 4 assists, 3 blocks and 3 steals, and Miller produced 11 points and four rebounds. Peterson ended the game with 10 points and three boards before fouling out.

Taylor's Kendall Bradbury led all players with 39 points.

The Lady Lancers will look to bounce back on Saturday. Grace travels to St. Francis for a 1 p.m. tipoff as part of a women's/men's doubleheader.
