MVNU outduels Lady Lancers in Ohio

MOUNT VERNON, Ohio - Grace's volleyball team could not keep Mt. Vernon Nazarene's offense in check on Wednesday, falling 3-0.

The Cougars (22-3, 11-1 Crossroads League) won the first two sets handily, 25-13 and 25-17. Mt. Vernon hit over .340 as a team in both sets and only had one attack error combined in those two games.

Grace's best offensive set was the second. The Lady Lancers (11-11, 5-7 CL) had 13 kills with just four errors. The score was tied 11-11, but Mt. Vernon opened up the game with an 11-2 run to ease away for an eight-point win.

The Lady Lancers demonstrated resolve in the third set, refusing to lose without a fight. Mt. Vernon held a 17-14 lead, but Grace tied the game with three straight points.

The score stayed close, and Savannah Hart's block gave Grace a 24-23 lead. The Cougars survived the set point, however, eventually edging out Grace 27-25. Grace's offense came up empty in the prime moments of the set; the Lady Lancers did not have a kill over the final 11 rallies of the set.

Kari Feddema led Grace with 10 kills on a .286 percentage to go along with three block assists. Hart had nine kills on a .500 percentage, and Marta Bleed notched seven kills.

Taylor Baird passed out 31 assists to go along with three kills and two digs, Caylie Teel led all players with 14 digs, and Kaitlin Kerrigan added eight digs.

The Lady Lancers end the weekend in Illinois, playing at the Big Guns Classic at USF.
