Lady Lancers put up fight at No. 13 Purdue Northwest

WESTVILLE, Ind. - Playing their second game in as many days, Grace's women's basketball team came up short in an upset bid at No. 13 Purdue Northwest.

The Lady Lancers (2-2) struggled with their shooting touch in an 85-75 defeat on Saturday.

Grace's aggressive defense did its part in the contest, forcing the Pride (2-0) into 19 turnovers. But Grace's offense shot just 35 percent from the floor.

PNW did most of its damage in the paint and from the foul line. The Pride shot 32 free throws for the game, including 24 in the second half. PNW also had nearly half of its points (40) scored in the paint.

A 3-pointer from Kelsie Peterson started the game on a bright note for Grace. However, Grace's offense hit a dry spell for the next 5:09 of the period, allowing the Pride to open up a double-digit lead.

The Lady Lancers managed to battle back, but they still faced a 44-35 deficit at halftime.

In the third quarter the Pride started to put distance between themselves and the Lady Lancers, going ahead by as many as 21.

Grace created an opportunity for a late comeback thanks to a 10-0 run in the fourth quarter with four minutes to play. Brooke Sugg hit a 3-pointer to start Grace's spurt, and Haley Richardson also converted a 3-point play.

But the Pride recovered from the free throw line. PNW hit seven free throws over the final 2:58 of regulation to hold on for the win.
