CLERMONT, Fla. - Grace's softball team used a walkoff win over Keiser to split its first day in Florida on Saturday.
The Lady Lancers (2-4) gave No. 16 Southeastern a run for its money before falling 4-1, but Grace bounced back with an 8-7 win over Keiser.
Chandler Elliott pitched an effective complete game over Southeastern, but Grace was unable to turn its hits into runs.
The Lady Lancers led the Fire (7-2) to start the game. Hannah Herbster led off the first inning and got on base, and Clarissa Knight drove her in for the game's first run.
Southeastern quickly tied the game in the bottom of the first, however.
The scored remained 1-1 until a three-run burst by Southeastern in the sixth won the game.
Herbster and Knight each had two hits, and the duo also had a triple and a stolen base apiece. Abby Mozingo and Brittany Melzoni also had a hit for Grace.
In the day's second game against Keiser, the Lady Lancers had their first walkoff win of the season.
Grace led 6-1 as the game entered the fifth inning. But Keiser rallied to tie the game by plating five runs in the top of the fifth.
The Lady Lancers responded with a run in the bottom half of the inning to reclaim the lead, but Keiser answered with the game-tying run in the top of the sixth.
Neither team could score in its next at-bats, setting the stage for Grace's walkoff win. Knight led off the bottom of the seventh with a base hit to the outfield, and Keiser misplayed its fielding to allow Knight to reach third base. Elliott promptly stepped up and singled in the winning run to left field to end the game.
Elliott was 2-for-3 with two RBIs, and she also got the win from the mound by pitching the final two innings.
Herbster scored twice and stole three bases, and Kyleigh Garner hit 2-for-3 with a run and a run driven in. Ashley Kleinbub and Sam Heim had a hit, a run and an RBI apiece, and Knight hit 1-for-3 with two runs scored.
Hannah England got the start from the mound and surrendered one run in four innings, and Allison Franklin struck out two in an inning of relief.
The Lady Lancers will take a day off before squaring off with No. 15 Davenport and Cleary on Monday.
