Baseball splits weekend series at Cincinnati-Clermont

BATAVIA, Ohio - Grace's baseball team and Cincinnati-Clermont played four defensive games over the weekend.

The Lancers (10-7) and the Cougars split the weekend as each team won 1-of-2 on both Friday and Saturday.

On Friday, Grace won the opener 6-4 and lost the second game 4-0. Blake Converset pitched a complete game victory for Grace, giving up seven hits and striking out two in a strong performance. Frank Rocchio doubled twice, scored once and drove in a run to lead Grace's offense in the opener. Mitchell Enyart was also 1-for-4 with a double and an RBI.

In the second game on Friday, the Lancers were handcuffed to just two hits (one from Austin Green, Cameron Maxwell) in a 4-0 defeat.

Grace repeated its effort on Saturday, taking the first game 3-1 thanks to strong pitching and falling 3-1 in the second game after struggling on offense.

Xavier Harris tossed a three-hitter to beat the Cougars in the opening game on Saturday. He allowed 1 run, 3 hits and 3 walks while striking out four in a complete game.

Austin Baker came in as a pinch hitter and laced a timely triple to help Grace come back in the 3-1 win. Jakob Radjenovich hit 1-for-2 with two RBIs, a double and a run scored, and Frank Rocchio was 1-for-2 with another double.

In the final game of the weekend, Cincinnati-Clermont held Grace to three hits. The Lancers' pitching — specifically five relief innings from Scottie Clark — gave Grace a chance by holding the Cougars to three runs on four hits. But Grace could not find its offense and lost by two.

Of Grace's three hits, two were doubles (Radjenovich, Rocchio). Rocchio has five doubles in his last five games, and he has nine extra-base hits already for the season.

The Lancers are scheduled to play their home opener on Tuesday at 1 p.m. against Robert Morris.
