Lancers pick up 15th win of season

WINONA LAKE, Ind. – Grace's baseball team improved to 15-11 after splitting a doubleheader at home on Tuesday against Lourdes.

The Lancers blitzed the Gray Wolves (5-17) in the opener 10-2 before falling 3-0 in the second game at Miller Field.

In the opener, Grace's bats were hot from the first inning. The Lancers ripped off five hits and pushed four runs across to grab an early lead over the Gray Wolves.

Jakob Radjenovich, Shay Hepler and Austin Green singled on the first three at-bats of the game. Jamar Bray doubled to score two, Xavier Harris's sac fly brought in a third, and Cameron Maxwell had a two-out single to score the fourth run of the inning.

Radjenovich scored again in the second inning, plating on an RBI single from Green.

The Lancers enjoyed another four-run outburst in the fourth inning. Green singled in Radjenovich again to start the scoring, and Harris brought in two more with a double to left field. Bray plated the fourth run when he scampered home from third base on a wild pitch.

Lourdes could only manage two runs in the third against Grace's defense. Jason Stevens earned the win from the mound, tossing five innings with six hits and two runs surrendered. Freshmen Logan Swartzentruber and Aaron Voirol came in to pitch the final two innings, tossing clean innings in relief.

Green batted 3-for-4 with two runs and two RBIs, and Bray was 2-for-3 with two runs and two RBIs. Hepler was 2-for-4 with two runs, and Radjenovich was 2-for-3 with three runs. Mitchell Enyart hit 2-for-5, and Harris drove in three runs.

In the second game, Grace's offense was hard to come by. The Lancers managed just two hits and were shut out for the third time this season in a 3-0 defeat.

Lourdes scored all three of its runs in the first two innings. The Gray Wolves used a single and a double to plate one in the first inning.

Lourdes added two more in the second inning, aided by a few defensive miscues by Grace.

Grace had chances to score, putting a runner on second base in the final inning and loading the bases in the fifth. But each time, the Lancers were unable to produce the timely hit needed to spark a rally.

Freshmen Bray and Harris were the sole Lancers to get a hit in the second game.

Aaron Voirol came in as a relief pitcher and tossed four scoreless innings with four hits and four walks, and Wesley Gensch tossed the final 1.2 innings without surrendering a run.

The Lancers will stay at home for two doubleheaders to close the week. Grace hosts Mt. Vernon for a doubleheader on both Friday and Saturday at Miller Athletic Complex.
