Grigsby fans nine as Lancers earn split

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Logan Grigsby struck out nine and pitched a complete game as Grace Baseball took game one of a highly competitive doubleheader on Saturday at Marian.

The Lancers (18-20, 5-11 Crossroads League) grinded out a victory in the first game of the doubleheader by a score of 3-2 before dropping game two by a 7-6 score in 10 innings.

In game one, the Lancer offense caught fire late by plating a run in the top of the sixth inning and then added two more in the seventh to steal a win.

The Knights (15-22, 5-9 CL) had their opportunities, but allowed the first three Lancers to reach base via error in the top of the seventh before surrendering the two game winning runs.

Austin Baker and CJ Swartz each turned in 2-for-3 performances at the plate in game one, and Xavier Harris and Jamar Bray drove in one run a piece as the Lancers took advantage of another solid Grigsby outing on the mound.

Game two featured plenty of offensive fireworks and excitement for each team. The Lancers struck first in a big way by scoring four runs in the fourth inning.

The lead lasted two innings before Marian scored two fifth inning runs, and then three more in the bottom of the sixth. The Lancers fought back to tie the game in the seventh inning to force extra innings.

The Lancers went ahead in the top of the 10th inning thanks to an RBI single by Austin Green which scored Mitchell Enyart. The Lancer lead was short-lived once more as Marian scored two runs in the bottom of the 10th to take game two.

In game two, the Lancers were led by a 3-for-5 performance at the plate by Hunter Ackerman, as well as multi-hit games by Shay Hepler, Bray, Swartz, and Enyart. Brenden Smith drove in three runs for Marian.

The Lancers return home to Miller Athletic Complex on Thursday to face the Cougars of Spring Arbor. First pitch is set for 2 PM.
