MOUNT VERNON, Ohio - Grace's softball team outhit Mt. Vernon Nazarene in both games, but the Lady Lancers settled for a split on Friday.
Grace lost the opener 3-2 after surrendering two runs in the bottom of the seventh, but the Lady Lancers (27-25, 18-16 Crossroads League) recovered with a 3-1 win in the second game.
After one inning of play in the opener, Grace led 2-1. The score stayed the same heading into the bottom of the seventh. The Cougars (22-27, 15-19 CL) managed to steal a walkoff win thanks to 2 walks, 2 passed balls, 1 single and 1 sacrifice fly.
Clarissa Knight and Chandler Elliott each batted 2-for-3 while Knight scored once and drove in a run. Ashley Kleinbub was 1-for-3 with an RBI.
In the second game, Grace outhit MVNU 10-3 en route to a 3-1 victory. Knight batted 3-for-4 with a run scored, and Hannah Herbster was 2-for-3 with a sacrifice hit from the leadoff position.
Elliott had two hits, including a double, and two RBIs, and Kleinbub hit 2-for-4 with an RBI.
Amanda Bowman took the win from the mound, stifling MVNU to zero runs on two hits over her four innings pitched. Hannah England finished the game to get the save, allowing one run in three innings.
The Lady Lancers end the regular season at home on Saturday at Taylor. The game, which is also Senior Day, will start at 11 a.m. in hopes of avoiding the scheduled rainfall.
