Huntington takes pair from Lancers

WINONA LAKE, Ind. – Huntington proved too potent for Grace's young baseball team on Monday afternoon.

The Foresters swept the Lancers (19-27, 6-18 Crossroads League) 16-5 and 5-2 at Miller Field.

The loss officially eliminated Grace from the CL Tournament. As a result, Grace's season finale will be on Tuesday 2 p.m. at home against St. Francis. Tuesday will also be Senior Day to honor the Lancers' graduating players Frank Rocchio, CJ Swartz, Wesley Gensch and Austin Green.

Grace led in the opening game 4-2 after three innings, but the Foresters plated five in the third to take the lead for good. Huntington ripped off nine runs in a sixth-inning outburst to pull away.

Jamar Bray drove in two runs and walked twice, and Swartz hit 2-for-3 with a run scored.

Matthew Warren lofted a solo home run in the fourth inning, and Jakob Radjenovich scored twice from the leadoff position.

In the second game, the Lancers saw another early lead crumble. Grace scored two runs in the bottom of the first inning and led 2-1 after three innings.

Radjenovich and Hunter Ackerman led off the first inning with a walk and a single, and they both came around to plate on a ground ball by Austin Green.

The Lancers could not manage to produce another run the rest of the game, however. The Foresters tied the score in the fourth inning and scored the go-ahead runs off two Grace errors in the sixth.

Grace could only move a runner past first base twice after the first inning -- both times by Shay Hepler. He was left stranded on second base in both the second and seventh innings, batting 1-for-2 with a walk and a stolen base.

Austin Baker was 1-for-1 as a pinch hitter, and Ackerman hit 1-for-3 with a run scored.

Swartz tossed a complete game, allowing four earned runs in seven innings.
