INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - Grace's run through the 2016 Crossroads League Softball Tournament ended on Friday with a 10-4 loss to Indiana Wesleyan.
Next up for Grace is the NCCAA Midwest Regional Tournament, beginning Monday. The tournament will be hosted at IWU or Grace, depending on how the Wildcats fare in the CL Tourney. The winner of the NCCAA region is given an automatic bid to the NCCAA World Series. Grace is searching for its third straight World Series appearance under head coach Heather Johnson.
The Lady Lancers (30-27) produced a fair share of offense with 10 hits and two walks, but Grace stranded nine baserunners.
The Wildcats (40-15) also flexed their offensive muscles, racking up 18 hits including four extra-base hits.
Both teams scored one run in the first inning. Grace's run came with a two-out rally. Clarissa Knight walked, and back-to-back singles by Chandler Elliott and Ashley Kleinbub brought in Knight.
IWU blew the game open in the third inning. The first seven Wildcats reached base safely as IWU plated six.Â
Grace managed to score two in response in the bottom of the inning to make the score 7-3. A single from Elliott drove in Sam Heim, and Kyleigh Garner's single scored Knight. Grace ended the inning with runners on second and third.
The Lady Lancers should have scored in the fourth, but Grace's threat ended with runners on second and third again.
A similar story occurred in the sixth. Grace notched three hits and scored a run off Knight's sac fly, but a larger rally was snuffed out with two runners in scoring position.
The Wildcats, meanwhile, produced two more runs in the fifth and another in the seventh to ease away for their 10-4 victory.
Heim finished the game with 2 hits, 1 run and 1 stolen base, and Elliott was 2-for-4 with an RBI. Knight batted 1-for-1 with two runs scored, and Abby Mozingo was 1-for-1 with a run.
