WINONA LAKE, Ind. - Grace's women's tennis team improved to 6-1 in the past seven matches with a 7-2 win over Saint Mary's on Thursday.
The Lady Lancers (7-3) had a balanced showing against the Belles (0-1), winning three doubles' points and four in singles at Miller Athletic Complex.
In doubles, Natalia Kurkova and Molly Fitzpatrick blanked their opponents 8-0 at No. 2, and Jenna Jackson and Carrie Copeland won 8-3 at No. 1. Gabrielle Lawrence and Mariah Lewis battled to a tough 9-7 victory at No. 3.
Kurkova, Copeland and Jackson won their singles' matches in straight sets at No. 1, 2 and 3 respectively. Jayna Huber earned a hotly contested match at No. 6 singles for Grace's final point.
"Tonight we played against a very good Saint Mary's team. Our doubles set the tone for the second day in a row by taking all three matches," said Grace coach Scott Moore. "Although this was our third match in three days, I thought we looked sharp. We are starting to play our best tennis of the season, and the best tennis since I've been here."
