Grace splits final day of UNOH Tourney

LIMA, Ohio - Grace's volleyball team ended the UNOH Tournament with a win and a loss on Saturday.

The Lady Lancers were swept by Cumberland but bounced back to end the weekend on a high note by beating Purdue Northwest in five sets.

In the opener, the Lady Lancers stayed close but could not take a set from Cumberland. Grace was within striking distance in every game as each was separated by five points or less.

Grace's offense struggled out of the gate with eight kills and eight errors in the first set, falling 25-20. 

The second and third sets were stronger for Grace, including hitting at a .300 percentage as a team in the third set. But Cumberland's offense was better, keeping ahead for 25-22 wins in both the second and third.

Sierra Smith had 10 kills, and Kelsee Zuidema added nine. Kari Feddema 5 kills, 1 solo and 2 block assists, and Taylor Baird tallied 28 assists and nine digs.

The final match of the tournament brought a positive note to Grace's weekend. The Lady Lancers battled back from a 2-1 deficit to beat Purdue Northwest in five sets.

Grace held off the Pride 25-22 in the opener, but Purdue Northwest seized control with two straight wins in the second and third sets.

With their backs against the wall, the Lady Lancers' offenses exploded with 15 kills on a .333 percentage to win by 10 in the fourth.

The fifth set went to extra points. Grace fought off one match point at 14-13 and, thanks to kills from Tori Bontrager and Smith, pulled out a 17-15 victory.

Zuidema picked up a double-double with 15 kills and 14 digs, and Smith produced 12 kills on a .385 percentage.

Caylie Teel racked up 19 digs, Baird tallied 42 assists and 11 digs, and Savannah Hart had eight kills.

Feddema and Zuidema were named to the UNOH All-Tournament Team at the weekend's conclusion.

The Lady Lancers are back at home on Wednesday, hosting rival No. 23 Indiana Wesleyan at 7 p.m.
