Game Recap: Women's Volleyball |

Lady Lancers split day one of Cornerstone Tournament

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - Grace's volleyball team started the Cornerstone Tournament with a pair of matches on Friday.

The Lady Lancers beat Northwestern Ohio in a dramatic five-setter before being swept by No. 16 Madonna.

In the opening match, Grace found revenge from a five-set loss to UNOH earlier in the season. On Friday it was the Lady Lancers' turn to win in five games.

After losing the first set 25-21, Grace rallied to win the next two games 25-14 and 25-21. The third set was the climax offensively for the Lady Lancers (16-11), who smashed 15 kills on five errors.

The Racers (13-13) battled back to force a tiebreaker with a 10-point win in the fourth game, but the fifth set belonged to Grace. The Lady Lancers were efficient with only one attack error en route to a 15-9 victory.

Caylie Teel was spectacular with 15 kills, 16 digs, 2 aces, 1 solo block and 4 block assists, and Sierra Smith had 14 kills and three block assists.

Alexa Hill handed out 40 assists to go along with seven digs, Naarah Foster produced six kills, and Sara Miller added a match-high 25 digs.

In the final match of the day, Grace was unable to hand Madonna its third loss of the season as the Crusaders (22-2) won in straight sets.

Grace was within striking distance in all three games but came up short 25-18, 25-18 and 25-19.

Kelsee Zuidema had 11 kills on 16 swings, doing her damage in only two sets, and Hill had 29 assists, 3 aces, 5 digs and 2 kills.

The Lady Lancers end the tournament on Saturday with two more matches, playing No. 18 Cornerstone and Aquinas.
