FORT WAYNE, Ind. – For the second straight day, Grace's volleyball team was playing a team on their Homecoming weekend.
On Friday, Grace spoiled Huntington's weekend with a 3-0 sweep. But on Saturday, St. Francis rewarded its Homecoming crowd with a 3-1 win over the Lady Lancers (14-10, 7-5 Crossroads League).
While Grace's offense connected at a decent clip of .212 as a team, Grace was unable to slow down the Cougars' attack. USF hit at a .285 rate as a team, producing twice as many blocks (10 to 5) as Grace.
The first and third sets were both won by USF 25-17. Sandwiched between those games was a Grace victory in the second set (26-24). Caylie Teel was a big factor with 11 kills over the first two sets.
The Lady Lancers seemed on their way to forcing a fifth set, leading for the majority of the fourth game. Grace held a 19-16 lead, but USF quickly recovered to serve for the set at 24-23. Kari Feddema's kill sent the game into extra points, but the Cougars ended the match with two straight kills to win 26-24.
Teel tied for match honors with 17 kills to go along with 15 digs. Feddema tallied 12 kills on a .476 percentage, and Sierra Smith had 11 kills and four block assists.
Savannah Hart produced 8 kills, 1 solo block and 2 block assists, Sara Miller had 17 digs, and Alexa Hill passed out 50 assists.
The Lady Lancers' next match is a road contest at Taylor on Wednesday.
