MILWAUKEE, Wis. - Grace's women's basketball team nearly pulled off a road upset on Saturday.
The Lady Lancers (1-3) fell 66-59 at No. 11 Cardinal Stritch after a poor shooting fourth quarter.
Grace was in the driver's seat, holding an eight-point lead at 56-48 to start the final quarter. But the Lady Lancers hit a fatal slump down the stretch.
Grace could only muster three points in the fourth quarter, shooting 1-of-17 from the floor. The visitors missed all nine 3-pointers in the stanza and committed five turnovers.
Cardinal Stritch took advantage with a 13-2 run to erase Grace's cushion, pulling away for the final seven-point margin of victory.
For Grace, the first and fourth quarters bookending the game were too much to overcome. Cardinal Stretch opened up the contest on a 17-3 run after tipoff, and the Wolves led 26-13 at the end of the first quarter.
Grace outscored the Wolves by 10 in the second quarter and only trailed by three at halftime; Kyannah Stull hit two 3-pointers in the quarter, and Lexi Minix added five more to pull Grace back into contention.
The Lady Lancers' momentum continued in the third; Grace outscored Cardinal Stritch 21-10 after drilling a trio of triples in the stanza.
But the Wolves owned the fourth, erasing Grace's lead and pulling away thanks to Grace shooting six percent from the floor.
For the game, Vironnica Drake led Grace with 14 points and three assists. Kelsie Peterson and Stull each scored nine, and Minix and Brooke Sugg each tallied five points. Minix also racked up 3 rebounds, 3 assists and 3 steals.
Pam Miller grabbed seven rebounds, Rachel Montgomery added four points and six boards, Kaylie Warble chipped in four points and five boards, and Myriah Hoffman had four points and four rebounds.
The Lady Lancers will have another chance at an upset on Tuesday, traveling to No. 14 Indiana Tech for a 7 p.m. matchup.
