Taylor beats Women’s Basketball to close regular season

UPLAND, Ind. - Grace's women's basketball team sputtered in the regular season finale, losing at Taylor 72-49.

The Lady Lancers (14-16, 9-9 Crossroads League) struggled on offense, shooting 35 percent for the game, including 1-of-14 from beyond the arc.

Vironnica Drake was a lone bright spot offensively, putting up 17 points with five rebounds.

The two teams will meet again in next week's Crossroads League Championships. Grace, as the No. 4 seed, will host fifth-seeded Taylor on Tuesday at 7 p.m.

Grace's troubles scoring were evident in the first quarter. The Lady Lancers missed six of their first seven field goals, and the Trojans led 13-9 by quarter's end.

The Trojans (13-17, 8-10 CL) opened up the second quarter with a 10-0 run, sparked by two 3-pointers, to open up a 14-point lead. Taylor cruised into halftime with a comfortable 36-21 lead.

Taylor started the third quarter strong as well, scoring the first eight points of the second half to establish a 23-point edge.

Drake scored eight of her points in the third quarter, but Taylor still led by 23 going into the final period.

Taylor refused to let Grace piece together a meaningful rally in the fourth quarter.

Darian Patton tallied eight points and eight rebounds, and Haley Richardson also scored eight.

Chloe Pridgen had six points and four boards, and Hannah Adams chipped in 4 points, 4 rebounds and 1 blocked shot.
