Game Recap: Baseball |

Doubleheader produces a split for Grace Baseball

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - Grace's baseball team and Marian split two halves of a twin bill on Saturday.

Both games were defensive in nature, with Grace winning the opener 4-2 and losing in the second game 6-1. The doubleheader was moved to Marian due to poor field conditions at Grace, but the Lancers (12-16-1, 4-7 Crossroads League) continued to bat as the home team.

In the opening game, Grace scored all of its runs in one inning. The game was scoreless until Grace came to bat in the bottom of the third.

Matthew Warren, Hunter Ackerman and Cameron Maxwell led off the third inning with three straight singles, and Xavier Harris followed that up with a two-run single.

Jamar Bray produced a sacrifice fly to score Maxwell, and Jason Stevens then drove in Harris with a two-out RBI ground ball.

The Knights (12-14, 6-4 CL) fought back in the fifth inning, using 1 hit, 2 walks and 2 hit batsmen to score two runs and make the game 4-2.

The rest of the game was quick as neither team moved a runner past first base.

Scottie Clark kept Marian in check with five innings from the mound as the starter, giving up two runs on four hits. David Anderson earned a two-inning save, allowing no runs on two hits.

Bray was 2-for-2 with an RBI, and Ackerman, Maxwell and Harris were all 1-for-3 with a run.

Marian's bats came alive in the second game, racking up 13 hits and scoring six runs.

Grace struggled to put together a full game, producing only four hits and committing two fielding errors in a 6-1 loss.

Joe Dougherty struck out seven batters in five innings, giving up four runs. Aaron Voirol and Kyle Brunner had strong outings in relief. Voirol allowed two unearned runs to score in 2.2 innings, and Brunner pitched a clean 1.1 inning with four strikeouts.

John McCarty was 1-for-1 as a pinch hitter, and Chase Baker was 1-for-4 with an RBI.

The Lancers conclude their series with Marian on Tuesday, hosting the Knights for a 3 p.m. contest at Miller Athletic Complex.
