MARION, Ind. – Grace's softball team was limited to one run in a doubleheader loss at Indiana Wesleyan on Saturday.
The Lady Lancers fell 5-1 in the opener before being shut out 5-0 in the second game.
In the opener, Hannah Herbster carried practically the entire offensive load in the first game. The junior had all three of the team's hits in a 5-1 defeat.
The Wildcats (36-10, 23-7 Crossroads League) scored two in the first and never trailed the rest of the day. Herbster actually reached third base in the first inning after a single, stolen base and wild pitch. But she was stranded with a strike out and ground out.
In the third, Abby Mozingo walked, stole second and reached third on a ground ball. She then came home to score Grace's first run on a ground out by Clarissa Knight to cut IWU's lead to 2-1.
But IWU held Grace without a run for the rest of the game and eased away for a 5-1 victory.
Herbster finished 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, and Mozingo added a steal and a run.
In the second game, Grace fell behind in the first inning again. IWU plated three times in the bottom of the first, using four hits and benefiting from a Grace error to take an early lead.
The Lady Lancers' offense was lacking again; Grace mustered only three hits. The Lady Lancers could not move a baserunner past second base throughout the game and fell 5-0.
Herbster this game did not have a hit, but she did pitch strong in relief. She did not allow a run or hit over the last three innings from the mound to give Grace a chance.
Kati Gregory and Mariah Roman were each 1-for-2, and Mozingo got the other hit of the game.
The Lady Lancers will have their final home regular season games on Tuesday, hosting No. 4 Marian at 3 p.m. Tuesday will also be Senior Day to honor the lone senior Clarissa Knight.
