INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – A big night from Caylie Teel was not enough to lift Grace's volleyball team past No. 24 Marian on Wednesday.
The Lady Lancers (17-13, 9-5 Crossroads League) lost 3-1 despite a solid 22 kills, 16 digs and 2 block assists from Teel.
The Knights (23-4, 13-2 CL) got off to a fast start with a 25-9 win in the opening set, but Grace quickly responded.
In the second set, Marian was serving for the set at 24-23. Teel had other plans, however. The senior pounded out two kills and a block, sparking the Lady Lancers to a 26-24 victory.
Grace's momentum continued in the third set, helping the visitors jump ahead 12-8. The Knights promptly won six of the next seven points and did not look back. Marian won the set 25-20.
The match was clinched in the fourth game. The Knights won 25-18, racking up 17 kills on just four errors.
Teel's match-high 22 kills came on a .288 percentage, and Kelsee Zuidema had 12 kills.
Gina Novotny dug up 15 balls, and Alexa Hill added 37 assists and 14 digs.
The Lady Lancers return home on Oct. 24 for a 7 p.m. match against Mt. Vernon Nazarene.
