SOUTH BEND, Ind. - The season opener for Grace's women's basketball team ended in a 77-58 defeat on Wednesday at IU South Bend.
The Lady Lancers struggled with ball control and long-range shooting against the Titans (1-0). Grace committed 22 turnovers and made just 6-of-23 from beyond the arc (26 percent).
Grace's shooting touch was particularly off in the second half, struggling to make just one 3-pointer in 13 tries.
IU South Bend led 45-34 at halftime. The Lady Lancers had 15 turnovers in the first 20 minutes, allowing the Titans to grab an 11-point lead at the midway mark.
Vironnica Drake (nine points) and Kyannah Stull (seven points) were Grace's leading scorers at the break. Stull scored all seven of her points over the final 2:37 of the second quarter.
The Titans quickly built up a 20-point cushion in the third quarter, and Grace was never able to mount a serious comeback.
Drake led Grace offensively with 12 points in 17 minutes before fouling out, and Kamryn Hostetler scored 11 points with a pair of 3-pointers in her first collegiate start.
Kaylie Warble just missed out on a double-double with 10 points and nine boards, Stull scored nine points, and Pam Miller finished with six points and six boards. Hostetler and Brielle Wilson (five points) both made their collegiate debuts for Grace on Wednesday.
The Lady Lancers remain on the road Saturday, traveling to Cornerstone for a 3:30 p.m. matchup.
