Huntington takes final game of series

HUNTINGTON, Ind. - Grace's baseball team could not get the better of Huntington on Tuesday, falling 13-5 on the road.

The Lancers (5-30, 5-15 Crossroads League) had an early lead thanks to the long ball, but Huntington's consistent offense made the difference in the nine-inning contest.

The Foresters (16-17, 14-5 CL), who sit in second place in the league standings, got on the scoreboard first in the opening stanza. But Grace quickly seized the lead.

In the top of the second, David Anderson reached base in the first at-bat. Sid Elford brought him home with a two-run home run to left field, handing Grace a 2-1 lead.

The lead was short-lived, however. Huntington tied the game in the bottom of the inning, and they went on to plate 11 more times over the next three innings.

Josh Tew entered the game as a relief pitcher in the bottom of the sixth and essentially shut down the Foresters. He struck out eight batters in three innings of relief, but Grace was unable to make up the difference.

In the top of the sixth, Houston Haney hit his second double of the day. He came around to score off a ground ball by Anderson.

In the seventh, Grace loaded the bases. Hunter Ackerman's RBI single brought in Ethan Brooks, and Gabe Douglass drew a bases-loaded walk to score Cameron Maxwell. But the Lancers ended the inning with a ground out and three runners on base.

Haney enjoyed a 3-for-3 performance with two doubles and a run scored, and Ackerman was 2-for-5 with a steal. Elford was 1-for-4 with two RBIs and a run.

The Lancers play at Indiana Wesleyan on Wednesday at 7 p.m., a makeup date from Monday's rainout.
