Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Grace enjoys goal spree against Lincoln Christian

WINONA LAKE, Ind. - The offense for Grace's women's soccer team continued its blistering pace to start the year, dominating Lincoln Christian 8-0 on Saturday.

Flavia Faria, Liz Van Wormer and Baylei Peters each netted twice during the Lady Lancers' rout at 1st Source Bank Field.

The Lady Lancers (7-1) have now scored 32 goals through the first eight matches of the season, third-most in the NAIA. Grace's 7-1 start is the program's best since the 2015 squad which began the year 8-0.

Within 10 minutes of play, Grace already had three goals in the back of the net. The Lady Lancers challenged the Red Lions (0-3) early and often after kickoff, quickly asserting control.

Liz Van Wormer got on the scoreboard first, finishing off an assist by Clair Snodgrass in the seventh minute.

One minute later, Riley Koch took advantage of a defensive miscue to score an unassisted goal.

Van Wormer notched her second goal at the 9:31 mark on another unassisted play.

In the 19th minute, Grace scored again. Sarah Casteel made a cross in front of the net, and Flavia Faria poked in her volley.

The Lady Lancers dramatically toned down their attack after going ahead 4-0. Grace focused on its possession, maintaining control of the ball for well over 90 percent of the half.

Grace finished the half with a 19-0 shot advantage, holding a 4-0 lead on the scoreboard.

Faria scored her second of the match early in the second half. Joana Schimmel set up Faria with a leading pass, and Faria finished the 1-on-1 opportunity with a shot just below the crossbar.

Baylei Peters netted Grace's sixth goal of the game, benefitting from an assist by Koch and Allison Vroon.

Peters scored again two minutes later, finishing off a well-timed through ball from Vroon.

Sarah Casteel registered her first collegiate goal with 12 minutes remaining thanks to the assist by Van Wormer and Kristen Bellinger.

Overall Grace outshot LCU 34-0 in the match. Bethany Blackwood earned the shutout victory in goal despite not facing a shot in 90 minutes. Brooke Kohler, Liz Aalbue, McKenna Cruz and Aubrey Feipel among others helped mute the Red Lions' potential attack.

The Lady Lancers are back in action on Wednesday, traveling to Georgetown (Ky.) for a 7 p.m. contest.
