BOURBONNAIS, Ill. - Grace's volleyball team was unable to pick up a win on the final day of the Olivet Nazarene Tournament.
The Lady Lancers were unable to take down No. 3 Columbia or the host Olivet Nazarene on Saturday.
No. 3 Columbia proved too tough for Grace to handle in the opener. The Cougars (21-1) employed a stout blocking effort at the net, resulting in nine block points.
Grace was stifled into a .090 hitting percentage as a team with 20 attack errors.
The first set was evenly played. The teams traded small leads until Columbia pulled away 24-21. Grace battled back thanks to kills by Marta Bleed and Kelsee Zuidema, but the Cougars won the set after an attack error at 25-23.
The Lady Lancers fell behind early in each of the next two sets and never recovered. Columbia secured the sweep 25-18 and 25-12.
Teel produced 9 kills, 16 digs and 3 solo blocks, and Bleed and Zuidema each had eight kills. Alexa Hill added 27 assists and 12 digs, and Gina Novotny also had 12 digs.
In the final match of the tournament, Grace was unable to secure a win against the hosts. The Lady Lancers led 2-0 in the match after winning 25-18 and 25-23 in the first two sets.
Olivet Nazarene stayed alive with a 25-22 win in the third set and started to build momentum with a nine-point win in the fourth game.
The tiebreaker set was so close it needed extra points. Hanna Leach and Makaela Lochmueller had back-to-back kills to lift Grace to an 11-8 lead, but the Tigers (11-9) quickly rallied to tie the match at 12-12.
Grace was serving for the match at 14-13 after a kill by Teel, but Olivet Nazarene flipped the script after a Grace service error and a Tiger kill. ONU went on to secure the five-set win at 18-16.
Teel and Hill both notched double-doubles. Teel had 14 kills, 26 digs and 4 block assists, and Hill had 51 assists, 16 digs, 2 kills and 2 block assists.
Novotny racked up a career-high 34 digs, and Deborah Michalski also had a career-high 24 digs.
Zuidema pounded out 16 kills with eight digs, Bleed had 13 kills, and Lochmueller added 11 kills and five block assists.
The Lady Lancers jump back into Crossroads League play next week, including two straight home games. Grace hosts No. 16 St. Francis on Wednesday and Taylor on Friday. Both matches at the Manahan Orthopaedic Capital Center start at 7 p.m.
